Santa Clara River Estuary

Where the Santa Clara River meets the Pacific Ocean in Ventura, this dynamic estuary combines river, lagoon, salt marsh, mudflats, beach, and coastal dune habitat. Seasonal changes in water levels and sand berms create constantly changing conditions that attract a remarkable diversity of birds.
Highlights: Snowy Plover and Least Tern (both nesting nearby), Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, Marbled Godwit, Willet, Whimbrel, Caspian and Elegant Terns, Brown Pelican, Osprey, Peregrine Falcon, and a variety of ducks and gulls.
